Submariner Date 1983 (16800)

Crafted as a pivotal "transitional" model, the Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 16800 marries vintage aesthetics with modern advancements, representing a significant step in the evolution of the Submariner timepiece. • Transitional Reference: Produced from 1979 to 1988, the 16800 model bridged the gap between vintage and modern Submariners.  Based on its serial number, Rolex made this particular watch in 1983.

• Upgraded Water Resistance: The 16800 was the first Submariner to boast an improved depth rating of 300 meters (1,000 feet).

• Sapphire Crystal: This reference introduced the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal to the Submariner line, a major upgrade from the previous acrylic version.

• Caliber 3035 Movement: The 16800 features a higher-beat automatic movement with a convenient Quickset date function, a first for the Submariner.

• Transitional Dial: Earlier 16800 models like this one showcase a matte black dial with painted tritium hour markers.

• Unidirectional Rotating Bezel: For diver safety, the 16800's bezel was upgraded to rotate in only one direction, preventing accidental extension of dive time.

The movement has been recently serviced and is running well.  There are light scratches throughout the bezel and minor wear to the case and bracelet. The bracelet fits up to a little over a 7" wrist circumference.
