Panerai watches are made in Switzerland, at the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. The brand's roots are Italian: Giovanni Panerai opened his first watch shop in Florence in 1860, and for decades the company supplied precision instruments to the Italian Navy. That blend of Italian design and Swiss watchmaking is a big part of what makes a Panerai feel the way it does on the wrist.

It's the large cushion-shaped case, the big, highly legible numerals and, on the Luminor, the patented crown-protecting bridge with its locking lever. Many dials use Panerai's sandwich construction, a perforated upper plate over a luminous lower plate, so the numerals and markers glow clearly in the dark. The Radiomir, the older design rooted in the watches Panerai made for the Italian Royal Navy in the 1930s, has no bridge and a softer, more vintage look. Every one of these details began as a practical solution for Navy divers and became the brand's signature.

Yes. Panerai launched its first in-house calibre, the P.2002, in 2005, and today it develops and makes its movements at its manufacture in Neuchâtel, from hand-wound and automatic calibres to complications such as chronographs, GMTs and a tourbillon. You'll find the calibre name, for example P.900, listed in each watch's specifications, and we're always happy to talk you through the differences.

Yes, and the Submersible is the collection built for it, with a unidirectional rotating bezel for timing your dive and a water resistance of 30 bar (about 300 metres) across the current Submersible line. Diving is in Panerai's DNA, and the brand tests its watches to a higher pressure than their stated water-resistance rating. Ratings vary from collection to collection, so ask us and we'll confirm the specifications of the exact model you have in mind.
